As the Sikh community in the North Texas area grew, a need was felt to create a congregation place for Sikhs in the Western part of the metroplex – leading to the opening of the Gurdwara Sikh Sangat in October 2000. The Sangat (congregation) of the Gurdwara Sahib grew rapidly as the congregation members and their families strove to realize their rich faith and culture – leading to the construction of a new, larger building in 2017.
Sikhs practice Sikhism, which is a relatively young religion founded in the 1400s. The religion is based on the key concepts of the oneness of God and equality for all. There are about 20 million Sikhs worldwide, ranking the faith as the world’s fifth largest religion. Sikhs follow the teachings of their ten Gurus through their holy book and Living Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Sikhism preaches a message of devotion to God, truthful living, and goodwill to all mankind.
